Centurion: Contra rationem
11/04/13 || gk
So then, 12 years after their last album, this death metal band from The Netherlands returns with another slab of crushing death metal and the same intense sound and energy that made “Choronzonic chaos gods” and “Liber zar zax” such fun albums. At its heart, “Contra rationem” is pure, unadulterated Morbid Angel worship. There’s nothing here that’s even remotely original but the band has this spirit and a damn good idea of song writing that makes them not seem like a second rate clone. Every song has at least one catchy riff and the band sounds energetic and driven. Having thoroughly enjoyed the band’s first 2 albums back in the day, I was looking forward to this one and Centurion does not disappoint.
If you’ve heard this band’s previous albums, then know that nothing has changed on this new one and if you’ve never heard Centurion before then your liking of “Contra rationem” will depend entirely on your tolerance for old school Morbid Angel worship.
7/10: Derivative but also a lot of fun.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
